Optalysys Limited
Company details
Created out of Cambridge University in 2001, Optalysys aims to solve the fundamental limitations of conventional computing by developing optical AI systems that accelerate the most demanding deep learning and pattern recognition tasks at ground-breaking speeds but at a fraction of the energy consumption of traditional computing hardware.
Project information
The goal of this innovation project is to design and implement the first chip level system that employs silicon waveguide arrays and produces a processor capable of processing image-based AI models at rates and efficiencies far beyond the capabilities of conventional silicon processor approaches. The approach is highly novel and differentiable over other optical computing approaches. The key challenges are in producing two-dimensional arrays from one-dimensional waveguide structures – and the coupling between the free space and waveguide interfaces.
